WHS – Workplace Health and Safety in Healthcare (eLearning)

This eLearning program is designed to equip nurses, midwives, and healthcare professionals with the knowledge required to identify, assess, and manage risks in healthcare environments, supporting safe clinical practice and workplace compliance.

Healthcare settings are dynamic and high-risk environments where staff are exposed to a wide range of hazards, including physical, biological, chemical, ergonomic, and psychosocial risks. A strong understanding of Work Health and Safety (WHS) principles is essential to ensure the safety of patients, staff, and visitors, and to support high-quality, effective care.

This course provides a structured approach to WHS, aligned with Australian legislation, including the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 (WA), and relevant national standards and frameworks. It supports healthcare workers in understanding their legal responsibilities, applying risk management principles, and embedding safe work practices into everyday clinical care.

Key areas covered include:

  • WHS principles and responsibilities in healthcare settings
  • Hazard identification across clinical environments (physical, biological, chemical, ergonomic, psychosocial)
  • Risk assessment and application of the hierarchy of control
  • Safe work practices including manual handling, equipment safety, and electrical safety
  • Infection prevention and control, including standard and transmission-based precautions
  • Incident reporting requirements and emergency response procedures
  • Fatigue management and psychosocial safety in healthcare
  • Workplace responsibilities, communication, and escalation processes

This program is suitable for nurses, midwives, and healthcare professionals working across hospitals, community settings, aged care, and remote or regional environments where WHS training is a mandatory requirement.

It is ideal for those completing annual workplace safety training, onboarding requirements, or refresher education to maintain compliance with organisational and regulatory standards.

On successful completion, participants will have the knowledge and understanding to identify hazards, manage risks, apply safe work practices, and contribute to a safe, compliant, and supportive healthcare environment.
